About
The Buck and Aspen Combo is a 17.6-mile mountain biking route located near Montrose, Colorado, on the Western Slope. Rated as difficult, the trail combines singletrack and doubletrack sections within the Uncompahgre National Forest. Riders typically complete the loop in about six hours, starting at a trailhead off Highway 90. The route features several steep but short climbs on the Buck section and technical descents with root hopping and rock dodging. The trail is shared with motorbikes from July through Labor Day, which can make some climbs and descents loose. The Aspen Loop portion offers views of aspen groves, while the Buck section traverses open fields and forest boundaries. Parking is available at the north trailhead, and pets are permitted. The trail is accessible from April through October, offering an escape from summer heat and opportunities to view fall colors.
