Burning Mountain Park in New Castle, Colorado, offers a moderate fall hiking experience on the Western Slope. The trail system is accessible from September through November, with a typical duration of about two hours. Located at an elevation of 5,563 feet, the park provides parking and restrooms. The trails are pet friendly. Evidence indicates a half-mile trail with interpretive signs, along with amenities such as a regulation soccer field, playground, river beach, fishing pond, and wetlands. The Burning Mountain Trail starts at the New Castle Park and Ride parking lot, south of the intersection of Burning Mountain Avenue and US Route 6. Street parking is also available. The area features a coal miner memorial, picnic tables, and a gazebo within the park space along Main Street. The trail system supports both hiking and mountain biking.
