Buzzard Gulch Trails

The Buzzard Gulch Trail System is a network of non-motorized singletrack located just west of Montrose, Colorado, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The landscape features classic canyon country terrain with alternating rocky and sandy surfaces. Vegetation consists of sparse pinyon pine, juniper, and big sagebrush, providing limited shade. Elevations range from 6,200 to 6,800 feet. The system offers approximately 12 miles of trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, trail running, and horseback riding. Most trails are rated as moderately easy with modest elevation changes. The area is popular for day use, with typical hikes lasting one to two hours. Parking is available at trailheads, including the Spring Canyon Trailhead and the Lower Spring Creek Trailhead along Dave Wood Road. The trails are pet-friendly. Water is not naturally available on the trails, so hikers should bring their own supply, especially in warmer months.
