The Caves Trail is a short, steep hike located in the Cement Creek Valley near Crested Butte South. The trailhead is accessible via Cement Creek Road (Co Rd 740), with parking available directly across from the lot. The route climbs approximately 883 feet over 1.66 miles, typically taking about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. The path features numerous switchbacks and leads to a distinct rock tunnel and cave formation. From the top, hikers can view Red Mountain, Cement Mountain, and the site of the first chairlift in Colorado. The trail passes through mixed aspen, conifer, and sagebrush vegetation. It is pet friendly, though dogs must be leashed. The trail is considered moderate to strenuous due to the steep grade.
