About

The Chicken Creek Trailhead in Mancos serves as the primary access point for a multi-use trail system in ponderosa pine forests, suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Located at 7,689 feet, the trailhead offers designated parking and restrooms. The system features approximately 12 miles of single-track trails with about 750 feet of elevation gain, generally classified as easy to moderate. Popular routes include the 'Whole Chicken' loop (15.2 miles) and various lollipop loops. The trails wind through lush canyons, crossing Chicken Creek, and connect to higher elevation trails and the Durango-to-Denver Colorado Trail. Pets are permitted. Fall hiking from September through November is common, with conditions typically dry and cooler temperatures. Camping is allowed in Mancos State Park nearby.
