The Colorado River Wildlife Area in Grand Junction offers a moderate fall hiking experience along the river corridor. The area features a paved East to West trail that runs the length of the wildlife management zone, connecting with 29 Road, 30 Road, and 31 Road. Hikers can access the trail directly from these roads or continue toward Corn Lake. The elevation sits at 4,517 feet, and the typical outing lasts about two hours. The site is open from September through November, providing stable conditions for walking and wildlife observation. Parking is available near the trailheads. Leashed dogs are permitted on the trails. The area was constructed to replace wetlands lost during the Grand Valley Salinity Control period starting in 1979. Recreation facilities are minimal, keeping the focus on hiking and nature. Boating is prohibited in the lakes within this section, ensuring a quiet environment for pedestrians.
