The Contortionist is a sport climbing route located near Telluride on the Western Slope of Colorado. It sits at an elevation of 5,881 feet and is classified as difficult. The route features eight bolts leading to chains and includes a definitive crux located above a roof. First ascended by Paul Emrick and Bruce Eriksen in 2001, the climb requires technical thinking early on before easing up to the roof section. Access is via a road maintained by the Idarado Mine, which owns much of the surrounding land. The area is open to the public with restrictions; climbers must respect private property boundaries and keep a low profile. Parking is available, and the site is pet-friendly. The location offers year-round accessibility, though winter conditions may bring snow and ice to the approach.
