Deadhead is a rock climbing area in Deadwood Gulch, near Silverton on Colorado's Western Slope. The site features moderate routes set in glaciated quartzite with slabby and ledgy terrain. A prominent single-pitch trad climb, also named Deadhead, offers a 160-foot orange face with horizontal cracks. This specific route is rated 5.8 and requires a standard trad rack with cams up to two inches, alongside quickdraws for fixed bolts. The area sits at an elevation between 7,273 and 9,482 feet depending on the specific outcrop. Access is via the Million Dollar Highway. While some sections involve private property with bolted gates, low-key rock climbing is permitted if visitors leave vehicles in the designated parking area and walk past the no trespassing signs. Amenities include available parking and pet-friendly policies. The prime climbing season extends from January to December, with dry summer days providing comfortable conditions on the sun-facing face. Climbers should be prepared for variable trail conditions, including potential snow or ice in winter months.
