The Dillon Pinnacles Trail is a moderate, 3.9-mile out-and-back hike located in the Curecanti National Recreation Area near Gunnison, Colorado. The trailhead sits adjacent to U.S. Highway 50 and serves as a boat ramp access point, with parking available on-site. A pit toilet and garbage receptacle are located at the trailhead. The route begins along the shore of Blue Mesa Reservoir, offering views of the water and distant San Juan Mountain peaks. Hikers ascend through sagebrush, ponderosa pine, and riparian habitats to reach the Dillon Pinnacles, a wall of eroded volcanic ash spires. The trail features switchbacks and steep, exposed sections with an elevation gain of approximately 490 feet. Interpretative signs along the path explain the geologic history, and benches are provided for rest. The hike typically takes about two hours to complete. September through November is a suitable season, though hikers should prepare for changing weather and potential heat exposure. Water is not available on the trail, so carrying at least two quarts per person is recommended. Pets are permitted but must be leashed, and horses are also allowed.
