Dunton is a restored 1800s ghost town and hot springs resort located in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, just across the mountain from Telluride. The site features hand-hewn log cabins, a saloon, and natural hot springs accessible to guests. Hiking opportunities are available within the town's vicinity, characterized by trails that can be challenging. The hiking experience is rated as moderate, with typical routes taking approximately two hours to complete. The elevation sits at 8,853 feet. Trails are accessible year-round, from January through December, though conditions vary with seasonal snow cover and temperature shifts. Parking is available at the trailhead, and pets are permitted on the trails. The area is known for its historic mining heritage, with the original hot spring visible at the highest point in town, fed by tectonic forces associated with the Triassic Dolores Formation.
