About

Eldorado Canyon State Park, located nine miles south of Boulder in Eldorado Springs, offers moderate fall hiking through a canyon defined by towering sandstone cliffs and South Boulder Creek. The area sits in an ecotone between the plains and Front Range foothills, supporting diverse vegetation including ponderosa pine, juniper, and cottonwood along riparian zones. Trails range from easy to hard, with the Eldorado Canyon Trail providing a notable route featuring switchbacks, wooden steps, and views of Waterfall at its end. Hikers should expect elevation changes and uneven terrain. The park allows leashed dogs and horses. Access requires a timed vehicle reservation for entry on Saturdays, Sundays, and summer holidays between May 1 and October 1. Daily vehicle passes range from $10 to $15. Restrooms are available, and fire restrictions currently limit fires to propane gas only.
