About
Forest Road No. 578 is a rugged mountain biking route near Whitepine, Colorado, connecting to Milk Creek Trail No. 474 and Forest Road No. 780. The trail is characterized by a steep, rocky climb that often requires hike-a-biking over a rockpile before reaching the smoother, wider terrain of Sawmill Park. From there, riders can continue south on the easier road to connect with CT - Segment 16 or descend via Tank Seven Creek Trail No. 480 toward Marshall Pass. The route is classified as difficult due to its steep grade and technical rock sections. Access is typically via Forest Road No. 780 or Forest Trail No. 488. The area is open for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and motorcycle trail riding. Potable water is not available at the site. Parking is available at the trailhead.
