About

The Fruita Trail Half is a moderate 12-mile hiking loop located in the North Fruita Desert near Fruita, Colorado. The trail sits at an elevation of approximately 4,539 to 5,575 feet and typically takes about seven hours to complete. Hikers access the route from a parking area at the North Fruita Desert Trailhead, where they should make an immediate left turn onto the trail heading southeast. The course follows a braided network of footpaths, including the well-marked Chutes and Ladders trail. The first half of the route gradually climbs over rollers before reaching a dirt road at the halfway point, which serves as a bailout option just over a mile from the start. The second half features larger climbs and steeper descents, connecting to the Frontside Trail and Zippity trail system. The terrain consists primarily of flowy singletrack with some dirt road sections, set against views of nearby buttes and mesas. The trail is accessible year-round.
