About
The Grinder is a 3-mile mountain biking trail in Fruita, Colorado, located off 18 Road. It serves as a moderate climb that connects to the broader 18 Road trail network, offering an alternative route to Prime Cut. The trail begins with a steady, easy grade covering the lower three-quarters of its length. The upper quarter features steeper dips and climbs around soft pots and washes, with three to four technical sections requiring hike-a-bike. Elevation ranges from approximately 4,518 feet to over 5,500 feet. The surface is typically dry and sandy, shifting between hero dirt after moisture and dusty loose soil under heavy traffic. Riders should expect hot, exposed conditions with little shade during midday hours from 11 AM to 5 PM. The best riding window is early morning, specifically between 6 AM and 9 AM, when temperatures are cooler and the dirt quality is optimal. The trail is accessible from April through October. Parking is available near the trailhead, and pets are permitted.
