Hogsback Trail is a short, steep ascent located in Overend Mountain Park on Durango’s Western Slope. The trail begins near the intersection of Leyden Street and 9th Street, with parking available at the cul-de-sac end of Leyden Street. The route covers approximately 1.1 miles with an elevation gain of roughly 660 to 700 feet, reaching a summit elevation of 7,479 feet. The path is characterized by a continuous, steep climb, particularly after the junction with Brown's Ridge. The final section to the summit is hike-only, while the lower portion allows biking. The trail offers views of Downtown Durango and the Animas Valley. It is open for hiking year-round, though fall is a common season for visits. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a leash. The trail surface is sensitive to moisture, so it is best avoided when wet to prevent erosion. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.
