About

Iron Spring Campground is a moderate-difficulty camping site situated on the Uncompahgre Plateau, approximately 15 miles outside Montrose, Colorado. The site sits at an elevation of 9,575 feet and operates seasonally from May through September. The campground contains eight campsites designed for tents and small contained trailers, operating on a first-come, first-served basis. A vault toilet is available on-site, but potable water is not provided at the campsite itself. Visitors typically spend about two hours accessing and setting up, though overnight stays are standard. The area supports off-highway vehicle trail riding, mountain biking, and big game hunting. Parking is available directly at the sites. The terrain includes forested areas with tall trees and aspen groves, offering a quiet environment with defined quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The site is pet-friendly, and while the road access from certain directions like Nucla may require higher vehicle clearance, it is generally accessible. The location places it within the Uncompahgre National Forest, providing proximity to Montrose for supplies while maintaining a secluded mountain setting.
