Irwin Cat Skiing is a guided snowcat skiing operation based in Irwin, approximately 13 miles west of Crested Butte, Colorado. The facility serves as the base for Eleven Experience, with operations centered at Scarp Ridge Lodge and Sopris House. The terrain sits at an elevation of roughly 10,000 to 11,400 feet, placing it in the 'snow shadow' of the Ruby Range. This geographic positioning results in an average annual snowfall of 500 inches, characterized as low-density, dry, cold-smoke powder. The operation provides access to approximately 1,000 acres of skiable terrain, ranging from open alpine bowls and steep chutes to tight tree skiing. The service operates from November through April, with typical excursions lasting about eight hours. The skiing is rated as moderate difficulty, though the terrain includes challenging elements such as cliffs and rock bands for advanced skiers. Amenities include a hot lunch at the Cat Barn, avalanche beacons, and equipment rental for skis and snowboards (boots not available). Parking is available at the base. Day skiing is subject to availability and may be prioritized for guests staying at Eleven Experience lodges.
