About
The Kokopelli Loops in Fruita, Colorado, form a connected system of four trails: Mary's, Horsethief Bench, Steve's, and Wranglers. Located near the Kokopelli parking area at 4,924 feet elevation, this route covers approximately 18.7 miles and is designated for non-motorized bicycles. The terrain mixes singletrack with doubletrack sections, featuring ledgy and rocky surfaces that contribute to a difficult rating. Riders navigate solid climbs on Mary's, technical descents into the Horsethief Bench area with ledges and boulders, and smooth dirt singletrack along large walls. Views of the Colorado River are prominent along the bench edge. The trail is open from March or April through October, with summer heat being a factor due to limited shade. There is no water available at the trailhead, requiring riders to bring their own food and liquid. Parking is available, and dogs are permitted off-leash. The typical duration ranges from six to over seven hours depending on whether the rider attempts the full loop or skips segments like Horsethief Bench. Rustler's Loop offers an easier alternative for warmups or cooldowns.
