About
The Krabbe Mountain Bike Trails are a network of singletrack loops located in Montrose, Colorado, on the Western Slope. Situated at an elevation of 5,929 feet, the trails form the core of the Sunset Mesa Trail system. They are positioned in a city park directly above the Montrose Water Sports Park on the Uncompahgre River. The total trail length is approximately 3.3 miles, with some sources noting up to 7 miles of connected trails depending on the specific loops used. The difficulty is rated as moderate, featuring flowy terrain with a narrow tread and scattered rock obstacles. Riders can navigate the trails in either direction, though a popular route follows signs from the parking lot on top of Sunset Mesa. The trailhead offers convenient access and parking, located just south of several radio antennas. The typical season for riding is from April through October. While the main trails are suitable for intermediate riders, easier options exist near the river level. The area is shared by hikers and occasional equestrians, with some buried glass near the upper parking lot. Pets are permitted on the trails.
