About
Lands End Observatory is a camping site located on the rim of Grand Mesa, approximately 19 miles south of Mesa, Colorado. Access is via Lands End Road (Forest Route 100), which branches off Highway 65. The road is roughly half paved and half gravel, spanning about 10 miles to the site. A high clearance or four-wheel-drive vehicle is not required, though conditions may vary with snow in winter. The site sits at an elevation of 9,938 feet and is open from May through September. Parking is available directly at the historic structures, which were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1936 and 1937. The camping experience is rated as moderate, with a typical visit duration of two hours. Pets are welcome at this location.
