The total distance is approximately 22 miles out and back, though one-way to the ghost town is roughly 11 miles. The road surface is wide dirt, generally rocky and potholed, with the first section near Grizzly Reservoir being more accessible and the terrain beyond becoming increasingly technical and rough. Elevation reaches up to 11,412 feet. The route is seasonal, typically open from April through October, and is closed to motor vehicles during winter months. Parking is available at the start on Highway 82. The area supports camping, with designated spots available along the first five miles of the road. Riders should expect variable conditions, including potential water crossings and mud, and must share the road with vehicles.
