About

Lowered Expectations is a rock climbing area in Ridgway, Colorado, featuring moderate routes on volcanic basalt. The site sits at an elevation of 7,428 feet. Parking is available on site, and the area is pet friendly. Climbers should expect moderate difficulty suitable for those with some experience. The climbing surface consists of a vertically-oriented dike cutting through decomposing Entrada and Cutler sandstone layers. The cliffs face east, receiving morning sun while remaining cool and shady mid-summer. Loose holds are common, so testing holds and wearing a helmet is advised. Top-rope belaying is possible on the far side of the belay gully. Access is via a rough BLM road off U.S. 550, approximately 3.0 miles south of the Ridgway stoplight.
