About
The Magic Meadows Access Trail is a moderate to challenging mountain biking route in Telluride, Colorado. It connects the Prospect Trail at the ski resort to the Sunshine Trail (T-35) along Highway 145. The trail is approximately six miles long and sits at an elevation of 8,789 feet. It runs through the Alta Lakes area in the Uncompahgre National Forest. The route features a mix of smooth singletrack and rugged sections with noticeable climbs and descents. Riders encounter varying trail conditions, including some unsigned paths in the meadow maze. The trail is open from April through October, though snow can affect access. May through September is the peak visiting window. Parking is available at the trailhead. The trail allows dogs, which must be on a lead or leash. It is closed to motorized vehicles but permits hikers, trail runners, and equestrians. A specific closure for elk calving applies until July 1st each year. The trail was completed in the fall of 2019 after construction began in 2018. It was built on USFS land to replace the previous Alta Lakes Trail, avoiding private property crossings.
