About

Mass Extinction is a rock climbing area on Grand Mesa, located near Grand Junction on Colorado's Western Slope. The site sits at an elevation of approximately 10,000 to 10,500 feet. The climbing routes are rated difficult, requiring a high level of skill and physical fitness. The terrain consists of hard, volcanic basalt. While the general basalt is highly fractured, specific layers deposited by large volcanic flow events create steep walls with good rock quality. Parking is available, and pets are allowed. Access is typically via CO Highway 65 or US Highway 50 east of Grand Junction. The area is open year-round.
