The Mica Mine up Ladder Canyon trail is a 5.2-mile out-and-back route located in the Bangs Canyon Recreation Area south of Grand Junction, Colorado. The trail begins at an elevation of 6,540 feet and descends through a narrow gap in sandstone walls before entering Ladder Canyon. The first quarter-mile features steep rock steps, after which the path widens and follows Ladder Creek through a cottonwood-lined corridor. The trail offers moderate difficulty, with sections requiring good traction footwear and occasional handholds in the rock. Hikers can stop at the historic Mica Mine, located 1.3 miles from the trailhead, or continue past it to a waterfall and switchbacks leading into higher Ladder Canyon. The route is accessible year-round, with spring runoff providing water in the creek and potential for snow in winter. Parking is available at the trailhead, and the area allows dogs if kept under voice command.
