The Mirror Lake Trailhead provides access to a moderate hike in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area, located east of Meeker, Colorado. The trail is situated within the White River National Forest. Access begins by taking Colorado Highway 13 east from Meeker for one mile, then turning right (east) onto Rio Blanco County Road 8. Follow County Road 8 for 39 miles, then turn south onto Trappers Lake Road #205 and follow it for less than half a mile to reach the trailhead. The trail starts near the lower end of Trappers Lake Road, following an easement across private land before entering the wilderness area. The route climbs steadily up the Mirror Creek drainage for approximately three miles to reach Mirror Lake. The total round-trip distance is about 8 miles with an elevation gain of 1,870 feet. The trail begins with a downhill section, flattens, and then climbs moderately. The trailhead offers parking and restrooms. The hike is suitable for dogs. The typical duration is about 2 hours, though this may vary. The best time to hike is from September through November for fall foliage, specifically aspen trees. The elevation at the trailhead is 8,513 feet. Recent reports indicate a critical Gold Mountain Fire with evacuation orders in effect, so hikers should check current conditions.
