About
Molas Lake Park & Campground is a high-elevation (10,545 ft) camping destination located on US 550, the Million Dollar Highway, approximately 10 minutes from Silverton. The facility sits on a 137-acre parcel along a 25-acre lake stocked with rainbow trout. It offers 62 campsites ranging from lakefront and rock outcrop to forested areas, accommodating tents, small RVs, pop-ups, and large RVs (some sites exceed 1,500 square feet). Amenities include a water pump, vault-style restrooms, pay showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and a fish-cleaning station. The campground provides direct access to the San Juan National Forest, the Colorado Trail, and the Weminuche Wilderness. Key features include dark skies free of light pollution and dramatic views of peaks such as Grand Turk and Sultan. The site is open from June 1 to September 30, though general seasonal availability is often cited as May through September. Reservations are required and open on January 1. Pets are welcome on a leash. The area is rated by AAA as the 'Most Scenic Campground in Colorado.'
