Mt Crested Butte Campground

The Mt. Crested Butte Campground is a free, walk-in tent-only facility located at the intersection of Gothic Road and Winterset Drive, just before the stables. It offers 26 designated sites on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations allowed. The campground operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with the 2025 season currently open. A maximum stay of 14 days is enforced. Unlike many local campgrounds, dogs are not allowed, and camping or sleeping in vehicles is prohibited. Amenities are limited to portable toilets; campfires, charcoal grills, and open flames are not permitted. Campers must stay in designated spaces and cannot camp in the grass. The site provides access to hiking, biking, and horse trails, situated near the town of Crested Butte in the Elk Mountains.
