Owl Creek Trail

The Owl Creek Trail is a 6-mile, moderately difficult route connecting Aspen to Snowmass Village. Starting from the Buttermilk Ski Area parking lot, the paved trail follows Owl Creek Road through farms, forest, and rolling hills. The route crosses the Owl Creek drainage to reach the Owl Creek/Brush Creek divide, gaining substantial elevation before descending into Snowmass. The trail surface is dirt or gravel in sections and paved in others, making it suitable for hiking, biking, and rollerblading. Fall is a prime season for this hike, with conditions typically spanning September through November. Hikers encounter large groves of aspen trees along the road, providing seasonal color. The trail is pet-friendly and offers parking at the Buttermilk trailhead. Restrooms are available near the start. While bike traffic is common, the path remains accessible for walkers seeking a scenic, multi-use corridor with views of the valley.
