About

Paleosol Wall is a rock climbing destination on Grand Mesa, located west of Grand Junction at an elevation near 7673 feet. The site features granite cliffs with varied terrain, offering both traditional and sport climbing routes. The area is generally considered difficult, requiring solid technical skill and fitness. Key routes include Flat Rock Flight, a single-pitch trad climb of approximately 40 feet characterized by a hand crack and clean face moves, and Get Crazy With the Cheese Wiz, a 5.9 YDS route featuring big jugs and thin cracks. Other notable lines include Paleoflow, described as a classic slot crack experience. The rock quality is solid granite, though some areas show polishing from traffic. Parking is available, and the site allows pets. Access is straightforward via a short walk through open scrub and junipers. The wall has a southwest aspect, meaning it receives significant sun exposure, particularly in the afternoon. Climbing is best suited for spring through early fall when the dry climate keeps the rock grippy and weather stable. Gear requirements typically include light cams ranging from finger to hand size, along with standard trad protection. The estimated duration for a visit is around four hours.
