The Piedra Falls Trailhead in Pagosa Springs offers a moderate, accessible hike to a 100-foot waterfall cascading over volcanic rock. Located in the San Juan National Forest, the trail follows the west side of the Piedra River for approximately half a mile one way. The route is suitable for most vehicles, requiring no high-clearance or four-wheel drive, and leads to a dirt parking lot at the end of East Toner Road. Hikers typically reach the base of the falls in about 15 minutes from the parking area, though a full outing often takes around two hours. The trail remains open from mid-April through October, with road closures occurring in November due to snow. While spring offers peak flow and potential icicles, the fall season provides a reliable window for viewing the falls as water levels decrease.
