About

Puma is a short, 0.5-mile singletrack mountain biking trail located near Rifle, Colorado. The trail is classified as moderate difficulty and is accessible from April through October. It is designed for use in both directions and connects to the broader Rifle trail system, often serving as a link in loop configurations. Access begins at the end of the G-Whiz trail, where riders cross a small 4x4 road to pick up Puma. The route contours around a small hill before rolling toward a BLM parking area. Key features include a short, exposed section across ancient dirt, followed by a technical decision point: riders can take a left through squeezing boulders for a more technical challenge or stay right for an easier path. The trail concludes by crossing a fenceline, navigating a rocky section into a creek bed, and finishing with a steep 10-foot climb back to the road. Parking is available near the trailhead, and the trail is pet-friendly. The name Puma is derived from a local legend regarding a cat sighting.
