The trailhead is located approximately 9 miles from downtown Montrose near No Thoroughfare Canyon. Parking is available at the trailhead, and pets are allowed on the route. The area is accessible from April through October, with specific closures for the Electric Hills trail system and roads occurring between December 1 and April 15. The Shavano Gateway Recreation Area, which serves as the trailhead for the Rimrocker Trail and local mountain biking, offers improved parking, staging areas, restrooms, and shade structures. The trail is part of a larger network that extends over 140 miles, serving as the southern anchor for the Tabeguache Trail.
