About
The Sky Mountain Park Loop is an approximately 18.4-mile mountain biking route located in Aspen, Colorado, connecting the Aspen and Snowmass Village areas. The trail traverses Sky Mountain Park, a 2,500-acre open space property situated on the ridge line between Brush and Owl Creeks. The route typically begins and ends at the Buttermilk Ski Area parking lot, though access is also available from the Highway 82/Brush Creek Road Intercept Lot and the Rodeo Lot in Snowmass Village. The loop combines paved sections, such as the Owl Creek Trail paralleling the Aspen Airport runway, with singletrack trails including Airline, Cozyline, Skyline Ridge, and Deadline. Riders generally complete the loop in about five hours, covering an elevation gain that reaches approximately 8,626 feet. The trail is classified as moderate to intermediate difficulty. The best riding season extends from April through October. Key features include exposed ridge views of Aspen, Snowmass, Independence Pass, Mount Sopris, and the Elk Mountains. Riders should be aware of afternoon thunderstorms, particularly on the exposed Skyline Ridge Trail. The park is closed from dusk to dawn, and e-bikes are prohibited on singletrack trails. The trail is pet-friendly.
