Staunton State Park, located near Pine in Western Colorado, offers moderate fall hiking across 3,828 acres of varied terrain. The landscape transitions from high grassy meadows at 8,100 feet to granite cliffs exceeding 10,000 feet, featuring aspen groves and conifer forests that provide seasonal color. Trails wind through rocky outcroppings and rolling hillsides, with some sections presenting rocky terrain and moderate elevation changes. The park provides approximately 30 miles of trails suitable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Parking is available at multiple trailheads, including Ranch Hand, Meadow, and Mason Creek. Facilities include restrooms, picnic tables, and an archery range. Pets are permitted on trails. The hiking season extends from September through November, though hikers should prepare for potential snow and ice at higher elevations later in the season. The park is pet-friendly and allows camping.
