The Wildlife Viewing Area in Georgetown, Colorado, is a designated State Wildlife Area managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Located near Interstate 70 at an elevation of approximately 8,457 to 8,800 feet, the site features a lake and rugged cliffs. It is widely recognized as one of the best locations in the region to observe bighorn sheep, though sightings are not guaranteed. The area includes an elevated observation platform equipped with free monoculars, binoculars, and telescopes. Visitors can access the site year-round for day use, with no overnight parking allowed. The terrain is classified as moderate difficulty, suitable for a typical visit duration of about two hours. Parking is available directly at the site. The area serves as a fishing spot for trout in both the lake and adjacent stream. A valid hunting or fishing license, or a State Wildlife Area pass, is required for all visitors aged 16 and older. Pets are generally allowed, but dogs must be on a physical leash when using the Union Pass Trail. Public access is restricted from December 1 through June 14, except for users of the Union Pass Trail. Firearms and bows may be discharged during hunting seasons, but hunting bighorn sheep is prohibited within 0.25 miles of Interstate 70 inside the area.
