About

Sunset Ridge is a rock climbing destination located on Mount Crested Butte in the Gunnison Valley of Western Colorado. The site sits at an elevation of 10,451 feet and is accessible year-round. It offers easy climbing routes that serve as an introduction to technical alpine climbing, making it suitable for various skill levels. Access is facilitated by the Silver Queen lift, which carries climbers to approximately 11,500 feet. This option includes one lift ticket and allows visitors to skip the initial hike. The route involves an 800-foot ascent along the ridge, featuring exposed Class 5 moves that are manageable for confident climbers. Most of the path consists of Class 3 and 4 terrain. Parking is available at the base of the climb near the Mount Crested Butte Resort. The area accepts pets, allowing climbers to bring dogs along. Climbers should plan for approximately four hours to complete the activity.
