Sunset Ridge Trail

The Sunset Ridge Trail is a 0.5-mile singletrack located in Ridgway State Park, approximately six miles north of the town of Ridgway on Highway 550. Situated at an elevation of 7,189 feet, the trail follows the southwest rim of Elk Ridge within the Dutch Charlie area. It connects Loop E and Loop D of the campground, offering a flat route with minimal elevation gain suitable for easy hiking. The trailhead is accessible at the southern end of the first loop, near a campground that closes during winter months. Hikers can view the Sneffels Range and the northern part of Ridgway Reservoir from several scenic overlooks along the path. The park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with visitor services available between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. A daily vehicle pass costs $10 to $15, while individual day passes are priced at $4. Leashed dogs, service animals, and horses are permitted on the trail. The route is primarily used for hiking and biking and can be traversed in either direction.
