About
The Long Haul is a sport climbing route located on the Puoux limestone crag near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Situated at an elevation of 8,821 feet, the route is classified as difficult. The climb involves a 50-foot scramble up steep choss to a two-bolt anchor ledge, followed by technical climbing over slopers and sidepulls. Fixed lines assist the initial ascent. The route is approximately 100 feet long and is noted for its quality limestone, which provides good friction. Access requires a waiver submitted to the property manager, Ken Headrick, via email. The location is on private property within the Defiance Cave Preserve but has maintained historical access to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Parking is available nearby, and pets are permitted. The crag offers year-round climbing opportunities due to the limestone's resistance to freeze-thaw cycles, though winter conditions may affect the approach. The route is distinct from other local limestone areas like Rifle Mountain Park, offering a concentrated area for sport climbing close to town.
