The trail connects Mahoney Drive to Lawson Hill Park and Ride, offering convenient parking options. The terrain is generally flat with some rolling hills, featuring dirt surfaces on the main trail and paved sections where it connects to the Telluride Bike Path. The route circles a large wetland area fed by the San Miguel, Butcher, and Cornet Creeks. Elevation ranges from approximately 2665 feet to higher points, with a total climb of about 342 feet. The trail is open year-round and supports activities such as skate skiing in winter. It passes through meadows and offers views of surrounding mountains and local wildlife. The trailhead is accessible from anywhere in town, with popular starting points including the corner of Mahoney Drive and Pacific Street near the San Miguel River Trail, as well as the Carhenge Parking Lot.
