About

The Vegetarian to Lower Chutes Loop is a 4.8-mile mountain biking route in Fruita, Colorado, generally rated as moderate but noted for being accessible to beginners. The trail begins at a parking area, crosses a road to Cow Pond, and heads east before turning north toward the hills. The initial segment follows Vegetarian Loop, which climbs a wash with a gentle incline and a short, rocky section near the top. From there, the route connects to Lower Chutes and Ladders, featuring fast, flowing descents with banked turns and swoops. The loop returns to the start via Edge Loop, characterized by firm, dry singletrack and occasional wash crossings. The terrain is typical of the high desert: rocky, dry, and rolling. The trail is open from April through October, and pets are permitted. While some experienced riders find the scenery and technical challenge limited compared to other Fruita trails, it is considered a reliable, predictable ride for building rhythm.
