About

Wear The Flare is a 90-foot trad climbing route rated 5.11 YDS, located on Palisade Mountain in the Big Thompson Canyon near Palisade and Estes Park. The route begins on a small ledge system, situated 40 feet above the cliff base and just left of the center tallest section. Access to this start involves an easy gully scramble from a paved parking lot, which is available for visitors. The route shares its initial start with Wake The Flake. The defining feature of the climb is an obvious V-groove corner, or flare, located 40 to 50 feet up the cliff face. Climbers must navigate difficult and crowded maneuvers at the base of a roof to reach this flare. Once through the roof, the climbing becomes easier as it leads up and out of the top section. The route was first ascended by Jason Seaver and Jim Belcer on February 4, 2006. The area is pet friendly and offers views of the red rock formation rising over 2,000 feet above the community. The elevation is 4,895 feet.
