About

Weir and Johnson Campground is a rustic, high-altitude site located in the Grand Mesa National Forest near Collbran, Colorado. Situated at 10,486 feet along Forest Road 126, the campground offers a remote setting characterized by dense Engelmann spruce and pine cover. The site contains eight to twelve campsites, providing a mix of drive-in and walk-in options suitable for tent campers. Access involves navigating approximately eight miles of washboard gravel road, which filters traffic and maintains a quiet atmosphere. The campground operates seasonally from May through September. Amenities are basic, featuring vault toilets and trash service, but there is no potable water or firewood available on-site. Cell service is generally absent, and the area supports fishing in nearby fluctuating reservoirs and hiking through the forest. The moderate difficulty of access makes it viable for most vehicles, provided drivers account for the unpaved approach.
