West Bench Doubletrack is a 1.06-mile moderate hiking trail on Grand Mesa, located in the Grand Mesa National Forest near Grand Junction. The trailhead sits off Highway 65 and offers convenient parking. Elevation ranges from approximately 9,672 to 10,072 feet. The route begins at an information sign and travels southward across a wooden bridge over Mesa Creek, then intersects a natural road to head northwest. The path parallels the road until it ends, where the trail becomes single track and intersects a fence line. After passing through a rock slide and crossing a stream bed, the trail enters an open meadow before moving into aspen and pine forests. The terrain is generally smooth with some rocky sections and volcanic rock, featuring continuous small hills rather than steep climbs. The trail is accessible year-round, serving as a popular route for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Summer hiking is best from late spring through early fall, though mud and persistent snow can occur. Camping is allowed in the surrounding area, including dispersed sites and huts. The trail is dog-friendly, with wildlife such as moose, elk, and bear present in the forest. No specific permits or entrance fees are required for day hiking.
