About
Yampah Spa & Vapor Caves in Glenwood Springs are natural underground steam baths formed by hot mineral water flowing beneath three interconnected stone chambers. Located at 709 E 6th St, the site sits just east of the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool and is easily accessible from Interstate 70. Hot water reaches approximately 125 degrees Fahrenheit as it seeps into the cave floors, creating an air temperature of 110 to 112 degrees Fahrenheit inside the chambers. The mineral-rich water contains high levels of sulfate, nitrate, zinc, and potassium. Visitors descend a staircase into the dimly lit caves, which feature marble benches for sitting. The experience typically involves 10 to 12-minute intervals of steam exposure, with cooling breaks provided by water spigots and buckets. Reservations are required. The caves are open to guests aged 13 and older and are not recommended for pregnant women or those with specific medical conditions due to the heat. Parking is available on-site. While the database lists moderate difficulty, the primary activity is sitting and breathing steam rather than strenuous hiking. The Ute people historically used the caves for healing and rituals.
