The surrounding forest spans three million acres across 11 counties, offering opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and off-highway vehicle use. The region’s history extends back to the Battlement Mesa Forest Reserve established in 1892, long before the current forest management structure was formed in the early 20th century.
