About
Our 110-year history began in 1910 with the passage of the first highway bill, which established a three-member Highway Commission to manage Colorado’s growing infrastructure needs. Today, we ensure that the state maintains a safe and efficient highway system by building and maintaining interstates, U.S. highways, and state highways. Our mission focuses on providing the best multi-modal transportation system that safely moves people, goods, and information across the state. We operate through various divisions including Aeronautics, Bridge & Structures, Environmental, and Maintenance & Operations, alongside specialized units like Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) & Network Services. The ITS branch, for instance, implements technologies to decrease travel times and create a safer driving environment for the traveling public, managed by teams handling field operations, engineering, and network systems. Our leadership team consists of directors from all divisions and regions, guiding our strategic planning and research efforts. We continue to evolve our services, from the Colorado Remote Tower to the Road Usage Charge, ensuring that our infrastructure supports the unique demands of Colorado’s landscape and its residents.
