Vega State Park

A 900-surface-acre reservoir constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation between 1957 and 1962 anchors Vega State Park, which spans 1,823 acres on the northeast edge of Grand Mesa National Forest in Collbran. The area’s history stretches back to 1885, when homesteaders established dairy herds, sawmills, a post office, and a school before the land was repurposed for water storage. Today, visitors access 109 campsites, 27 picnic sites, and 7 miles of trails for hiking and cross-country skiing. Boat ramps provide access to the water, while surrounding montane meadows support birdwatching and fishing. The facility includes restrooms and accepts credit cards, serving as a family-friendly destination.
