Aspen —"I just kept telling myself, 'There is nowhere else I’d rather be,'" Lecsi Glenn said.

She wasn’t talking about a weekend hike. She was 27 hours into a 100-mile ultramarathon. Her legs were screaming. But her face hurt more. Not from exhaustion. From smiling.

Glenn, a Carbondale native, crossed the finish line of the inaugural DC Peaks 100 in Salt Lake City with a time of 27 hours, 47 minutes, and 11 seconds. She took the women’s win by nearly an hour and a half. Overall, she placed 12th.

The Post Independent reported that Glenn earned her diploma from Basalt High School in 2020. She found her love for running while earning her bachelor’s degree at Montana State University in Bozeman. She didn’t run track or cross-country in high school. The Roaring Fork Valley shaped her motivation differently.

"Our whole lives, we've grown up looking at such stunning peaks," Glenn said. "There is always a part of us that wants to go explore and go see a different part of the valley. It's such a cool way to learn about yourself, and the environment."

The course was brutal. It featured 20,869 feet of elevation gain through the Salt Lake City foothills. The high point reached 9,364 feet. Glenn spent much of the race singing, dancing, and soaking in the scenery.

"I did not expect (to win by so much); that was kind of crazy," Glenn laughed. She entered the race with no previous 100-mile experience. Her goal was simple: show up for herself.

"I just wanted to go out, have a good day, and show up for myself in a way that I could be proud of," she said.

Her crew played a massive role. Friends provided an outpouring of love and support that kept her motivated. Glenn noted that her optimistic attitude and the encouragement from her team were key factors.

She didn’t look at the other runners. If someone passed her, she’d be happy for them. She focused on her own path. That mindset carried her through the century.

Glenn finished her first 100-mile race nearly an hour and a half ahead of the next female finisher. She stood atop the podium. She bit down on her first-place medal.

The race took place in early October. Glenn ran for nearly 28 straight hours. Her facial muscles were sore from smiling. Her leg muscles were tired from running.

She made it to the top. She did it her own way. She followed her heart. She didn’t follow a plan. She followed her heart.

The course was tough. The terrain was challenging. The elevation was high. The distance was long. The time was long. The effort was great. The result was sweet.
