As you step into the vibrant gathering area of Colorado SunFest 2026, the sound of lively chatter and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee envelop you, immediately drawing you into the excitement of the daylong event, where Coloradans have come together to discuss what makes "A Better Colorado" - and the state's rich literary scene is a significant part of that conversation. The authors table, nestled in the heart of the main gathering area, is a hub of creative energy, where seven award-winning authors are eager to engage with guests, share their latest works, and sign copies of their books. If you look closely, you'll notice the diverse range of genres and styles represented, from psychological suspense to historical fiction, and from cookbooks to short story collections.

Cynthia Swanson, a two-time Colorado Book Award winner, is one of the notable authors in attendance, with her recently released short story collection "This Isn't New: Women's Historical Stories" available for sale and signing. Her contributions to the award-winning anthology "Denver Noir" have also garnered significant attention, and fans of her psychological suspense novels, such as "The Bookseller" and "The Glass Forest," won't want to miss the opportunity to meet her. Allyson Reedy, on the other hand, brings a unique blend of fiction, food journalism, and restaurant criticism to the table, with her novel "Mrs. Wilson's Affair" offering a fresh perspective on "The Great Gatsby" - a book that has clearly left an indelible mark on her, given that she owns over 50 copies and has even named her dog Gatsby.

As you wander through the crowd, you might stumble upon Meg Wingerter, who has just released her powerful novel "The Silence that Remains," a work of historical fiction set in Stalin's early 20th-century Russia that resonates deeply with contemporary themes. Her journey to completing this book was long and winding, spanning eight years, five jobs, four states, and one pandemic, which speaks to her dedication to her craft. Samuel Marquis, born and raised in Colorado, is another author worth meeting, with his extensive knowledge of American history and his captivating stories of legendary privateers like Captain William Kidd. He promises to have cool poster board visuals of Captain Kidd's sailing routes on hand, which are sure to delight history buffs and fans of adventure stories alike. Pardeep Toor, the winner of the PEN America Dau Prize, is also in attendance, with his short story collection "Hands" having been published just this April. His writing has appeared in numerous prestigious publications, including the Best Debut Short Stories 2021, Southern Humanities Review, and Longreads, and his experiences as a librarian in Colorado have undoubtedly influenced his unique perspective on the world. Kevin Fitzgerald, a veterinarian with over 40 years of experience in Denver, brings a dash of humor and a passion for conservation to the table, with his book "It Started with a Turtle" recounting his adventures in the animal kingdom and his work with rock promoters and touring bands. G. Brown, a stalwart of the Rocky Mountain musical landscape, rounds out the literary lineup, with his decades-long navigation of the local music scene sure to provide a wealth of fascinating stories and insights.

As the day unfolds, you can feel the warmth of the community, the excitement of discovery, and the joy of connecting with like-minded individuals who share a passion for literature and the arts. There's a sense of camaraderie in the air, as authors and readers alike come together to celebrate the power of storytelling and the impact it can have on our lives. If you're a book lover, a writer, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of language, this is an event worth attending - and the fact that it's happening right here in our own backyard makes it all the more special. As you leave the gathering area, the sound of laughter and conversation lingers, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee clings to your clothes, a reminder of the vibrant literary scene that thrives in our community, and the talented authors who are helping to shape its future.
